221 schools in Abu Dhabi have received the ago ahead to reopen for the new academic year
Abu Dhabi, Aug 28, 2021: Private schools in Abu Dhabi that do not submit daily compliance self-check reports to education regulators, when students return to school for in-person classes on August 29, will be fined up to Dhs250,000.
The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (Adek) said it has conducted more than 200 compliance inspection visits to private and charter schools across the emirate to ensure their preparedness for in-person learning for the academic year 2021-22. The authority also said in a statement that schools are required to adhere to strict precautionary protocols to receive a No Objection Certificate to reopen.
The Adek health and safety team conducted inspection visits for two weeks and visited 221 Abu Dhabi schools who successfully got a ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) to reopen. Schools who could not meet the compliance protocols were given three days to correct the areas of non-compliance before the visit of ADEK’s health and safety team again.

ADEK in a statement said, “had any school failed their third compliance inspection, they would have been denied the option to reopen for face-to-face learning and been required to return school fee to parents who could have opted to transfer their children to an alternative school.”
Operational schools are instructed to submit daily compliance self-check reports to ADEK. Schools will be regularly inspected by the department’s compliance inspectors.
