Kuwait Education Ministry to cut school bag weight by 50%

The Kuwait Education Ministry’s decision to cut school bag weight by 50% aims to ease the burden on students without sacrificing the quality of education or content

Textbooks for the second semester of the 2024-2025 year to be split into two parts

Kuwait City, Jan 26, 2025: The Kuwait Ministry of Education has announced new measures aimed at reducing the weight of school bags by 50%, addressing growing concerns about students’ physical health.

Under the guidance of Minister of Education Jalal Al-Tabtabaei, the ministry has implemented several strategies, including splitting textbooks for the second semester of the 2024-2025 academic year into two parts. This adjustment is intended to ease the burden on students without sacrificing the quality of education or content. The new textbooks will be printed with specifications designed to minimise weight, ensuring a balance between effective learning and student well-being.

This move comes after years of concerns raised by parents and educators about the physical strain heavy school bags place on students.

The ministry emphasised that these adjustments were made without compromising the quality of the textbooks or educational content, ensuring that curricula remain effective and up-to-date. Moreover, the ministry confirmed that all changes were implemented without exceeding the approved budget for textbook printing.

The Supplies and Stores Administration, which is responsible for distributing textbooks, stationery and other school supplies, has already started distributing the new textbooks to schools and educational regions to ensure a smooth transition for the second semester.
