The letter says “the Award would not be what it is today without dedicated volunteers like you”

Dubai, Feb 03, 2022: A Dubai teacher has received a personal letter of gratitude from Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex and a special commemorative coin donated by The Royal Mint.

Kirsty Roberts, Head of History, Law & Politics at The English College Dubai has been recognised for her ongoing support of young people and volunteer work for The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (DofE). 

In recognition of her efforts, Roberts received a personal letter of gratitude from Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex & a DofE Trustee. 

Talking about the letter to Education Middle East, Roberts says, “I felt extremely honored to receive it and proud that my colleagues had put me forward for such an amazing award.” 

Roberts also received a special commemorative coin that marks the life and legacy of HRH late Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh & the DofE’s patron. A total of only 100 of these coins have been produced and distributed worldwide.

Reminiscing her meeting with late Prince Philip at Windsor horse trails years ago, Roberts said she was lucky enough to greet him and shake his hand.

Roberts, who has been a member of the teaching faculty at The English College Dubai for the past four years, has been involved with the DofE Awards for more than seven years.

Roberts says the award is very robust and encourages young adults to challenge themselves, while considering helping those that have less opportunities than them. 

In the spirit of DofE, Roberts has been helping children to develop the skills and attitudes they need to become more rounded, confident and responsible adults.
