Nurseries and kindergartens in Bahrain to fall under the Education Ministry

Amendments have been made to the 2012 child Law to facilitate the change

Dubai, Feb 07, 2022: Nurseries and kindergartens in Bahrain will now fall under the jurisdiction of the Education Ministry. The decision was made after a majority vote approved the move by Bahrain’s upper chamber of the National Assembly. The responsibility will now be under the ministry of Dr Majid Al Nuaimi, the Education Minister. Earlier it was with the Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel Humaidan.

Amendments to the 2012 child Law have been made to upgrade early learning in the region, to monitor nurseries and kindergartens and to develop the sector while preventing any overlapping of duties between the two ministries.

During the council’s weekly session held yesterday, Dr. Ibtisam Al Dallal, the Shura Council’s Woman and Child Committee Chairwoman said that the amendments will unify the framework of early learning establishments while also providing a comprehensive guide for curricula in addition to increasing the quality of services provided. “It will also encourage investment in the field while also bolstering the sector in Bahrain on a local, regional and international level in addition to preserving the rights of children for free and mandatory education,” she added.
