UAE teachers can now give private tuitions

Registered teachers in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, students aged 15 to 18 and university students can apply for the new Private Teacher Work Permit

Dubai, Dec 19, 2023: UAE educators will now be able to offer individual tuition outside of school hours.

The new Private Teacher Work Permit, announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation and the Ministry of Education, allows different groups of specialised and qualified professionals to offer private lessons for students, individually or in groups.

The aim is to help students at private schools improve their learning, and also regulate the provision of private tutoring outside the classroom.

Registered teachers in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, students aged 15 to 18 and university students can apply for the permit.

The permit is valid for two years and is free of cost. Qualified individuals can engage in private tutoring after endorsing a Code of Conduct document, following the form approved by the Ministry of Education.

Eligible applicants can apply for the permit by submitting a request for the Private Teacher Work Permit through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation’s smart application, website or e-services system.

Providing private lessons without the issued permit could lead to fines and other penalties. However, the exact amounts or details of the penalties have not been specified by the ministry.

Licensed tutors can operate from their home nations, given they hold valid residency.

The permit grants both online and in-person tutoring under a single permit, while there is no limitation on the number of students a tutor can teach.

According to the ministry, it would take one to five working days for the permit to be issued.

If the application is denied, the applicant can submit another request after six months.

Documents required for the permit include valid UAE residency (passport/Emirates ID), signed declaration, certificate of good conduct, no-objection certificate from the employer, no-objection certificate from guardian (for students looking to offer private tuition), experience certificate (if any) and photo with white background.
