The new sporting facility at Misk Schools supports coaching in 24 Summer Olympic sports among other disciplines
Riyadh, Feb 13, 2024: Riyadh-based Misk Schools has opened its new sporting facility which supports coaching in 24 Summer Olympic sports among other disciplines.
The facility includes 25m and 50m Olympic-standard swimming and diving pools, a learn-to-swim pool and a sports hall boasting 12 multi-purpose courts. For enthusiasts of combat sports, a dedicated room is available, complemented by two fully equipped fitness suites and a multi-purpose fitness room for classes. There are three tennis courts and a shaded MUGA (multi-use games area), which accommodates a variety of sporting activities.
The school describes its sports strategy as having three key aspects. It prioritises student health, well-being and active participation; it concentrates on nurturing grassroots talent, complementing the school’s broader focus on high performance and the development of future leaders; and it aims to establish itself as a community hub, drawing in gifted young athletes as well as adults committed to enhancing their skills and fitness levels.
According to Misk Schools Director General Dr Steffen Sommer, “This forms part of a broader strategy to immerse students in an environment rich with exceptional role models, giving them a first-hand understanding of the dedication required for success at the highest levels.
“Ultimately, the goal is to cultivate a supportive environment where excellence is not only achieved but shared and engrained, becoming an integral part of the school’s ethos.”
The investment is contextualised against Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals to enhance community sports in the country, raising the percentage of sporting participation to 40% by 2030.
Additionally, Misk Schools offers specialised academies for golf, go-karting and equestrianism, as well as an e-sports suite crafted by specialists. Completing the line-up are two FIFA-standard synthetic grass pitches and two 400m Olympic tracks.
