The new interdisciplinary degree aims to bridge the regional skills gap by combining human-centred design with advanced computational methods and ethical AI. 

Dubai, Jul 28, 2026: Canadian University Dubai (CUD) has launched a new Bachelor of Science in Design and Artificial Intelligence (BScDAI). The new course aims to equip graduates with the skills needed for emerging careers at the intersection of design, computational intelligence and digital technology.  

Applications are now open for the programme’s inaugural cohort in Fall 2026. Developed to meet surging regional and global demand for tech-literate creative professionals, the interdisciplinary degree blends studio-based design education with coursework in computing, mathematics, visualisation and AI-enabled processes. 

“As artificial intelligence continues to reshape industries and transform the way we address complex environmental and societal challenges, there is growing demand for professionals who can combine design thinking with advanced computational and AI capabilities,” says Massimo Imparato, Dean of Canadian University Dubai’s School of Architecture and Interior Design. 

The programme is structured to give students a comprehensive foundation across key technical and creative domains, including Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) & Interaction Design, Programming & Computational Methods, AI-Driven Visualisation & Design Tools and Algorithmic Thinking & Data-Informed Decision-Making.  

Through these core competencies, students will learn to design intelligent products, responsive physical environments, interactive digital services and user-adaptive platforms across spatial, product and service design sectors. 

Hands-on learning with a focus on ethics 

A new programme lays emphasis on human-centred design and the ethical implications of automation. Students will evaluate the social, cultural, environmental and ethical impacts of artificial intelligence while applying computational tools to solve complex real-world problems. 

Experiential learning plays a central role throughout the degree. Students will participate in hands-on design studios, internships and collaborative industry projects. The curriculum also integrates sustainability, entrepreneurship, research and community engagement to promote responsible, societal-focused innovation.

“We have designed the programme to equip students with the technical ability, creative vision and ethical understanding needed to create intelligent, human-centred solutions and lead the next generation of innovation across the design industry.”

Graduates will be prepared for multidisciplinary roles in digital service design, UX/UI architecture, smart product development and tech-driven spatial design. 

The degree programme is currently accepting applications for the Fall 2026 academic intake.
