Artificial intelligence dominates school procurement

Schools in the GCC are making significant investments in digital infrastructure to enhance educational technologies such as virtual classrooms, e-learning platforms and other interactive learning tools

Technology adoption into school curriculum has led to a steady increase in demand for education-related AI products despite a lack of technical expertise, concerns about data privacy and security, and high cost of implementation

The nature and scope of education supplies – both products and services – are evolving rapidly each year due to the swift advancements in technology. Amidst these changes, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is experiencing rapid growth, transforming how educational tools and resources are developed and utilised.

The demand for AI products in schools is mainly driven by the need for adaptive learning platforms, administrative tools, learning management systems (LMS) and tools to monitor student behaviour and engagement.

Market intelligence firm International Data Corporation’s (IDC) data indicates that currently (2024) the global AI market stands at nearly $235 billion, with projections showing a rise to more than $631 billion by 2028. By 2027 more than 90% of devices used in learning and education will be equipped with AI-enhanced functionality.

According to PwC, the GCC EdTech market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 15%, with projected investments surpassing $700 billion by 2028.

Speaking to Education Middle East, industry officials say the GCC region is poised for greater technology adoption, mainly driven by government initiatives, strategic partnerships with EdTech companies and a growing recognition of the importance of digital literacy.
