Abu Dhabi schools get more relaxation based on vaccination rates

Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee has approved the blue schools initiative, supporting schools in the emirate to relax measures and return to normal operations based on vaccination rates

Abu Dhabi, Oct 05, 2021: Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee has approved the blue schools initiative which will be implemented from Term 2 of the current academic year.

With the approval of the blue school initiative, all schools in Abu Dhabi can ease down COVID-19 measures and get back to normal operations based on vaccination rates.

Schools with higher vaccination rates will be able to gradually relax measures, including reduced social distancing requirements, relaxed mask-wearing protocol, increased classroom and school transport capacity, a return to extra-curricular activities and field trips.

The announcement made on the social media by the authority shared colour codes for four tiers:

  • Orange for schools with less than 50 percent of students vaccinated
  • Yellow for schools with 50-60 percent of students vaccinated
  • Green for schools with 65-84 percent of students vaccinated
  • Blue for schools with 85 percent and above students vaccinated

Children can receive a free vaccine at various vaccination centres across Abu Dhabi, including the dedicated children’s vaccination centre at ADNEC, the authority said in the announcement.
