UAE schools excel in IB exams

At Aldar Education’s Bateen World Academy, 10% of IB students scored 40+ points, while 83% achieved 30 points or more

With a 90.87% Diploma Programme pass rate (the highest in the GCC), the UAE topped the region, followed by Saudi Arabia at 86.05% 

Dubai, July 7, 2025: UAE leads the region with stellar performance in the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) and IB Career Programme (IBCP) examinations for 2025, results of which were announced Saturday. 

With 5,512 candidates writing both the DP and CP exams, UAE stood out with a 90.87 DP pass percentage, the highest in the region, followed by Saudi Arabia with 86.05%.  

The number of students from the UAE increased by 10.87% from 2,685 in 2024 to 2,977 in 2025, according to the International Baccalaureate (IB).  

With high pass rates and an increase in the number of students with 40-plus scores, schools in the UAE say the results are a testament to the high standards being set in the country. The global average DP score for the May 2025 session is 30.58 points. 

GEMS Education, which operates seven IB schools in the UAE alone, in a statement said a total of 645 Grade 12/ Year 13 students who attended the exams achieved an average point score of 34 and a pass rate of 95%, exceeding the 2024 global averages of 30 points and 80% respectively.  Three of its students also attained the maximum score possible of 45.

Innoventures Education, which operates three IB schools in Dubai, stated that its students have delivered an outstanding 100% pass rate in this year’s IBDP exams, setting new records, and securing more than $18 million in university scholarships.  

While two of its students earned 45 points, four others scored 44 points, and 24% of the graduating cohort attained 40 points or higher.

Students at Repton School Dubai have an impressive average score of 35 points, significantly surpassing the global average of 30 points. In a statement the school said 100% of its students awarded the diploma achieved more than 26 points, while 87% exceeded the global average.  

Michael Bloy, Principal of Repton Dubai School, said, “These results reflect not only academic rigour but also the resilience, creativity and critical thinking our students embody.”  

Sunmarke School too achieved outstanding results this year, with an average IBDP score of 36.4, more than six points above the global average this year, and 28% of students scoring 40+ points. 

Nicholas Rickford, Principal of Sunmarke School said, “We are seeing so many students who have been with Fortes Education for their whole time in Secondary achieve such outstanding results.” 

Bateen World Academy, part of Aldar Education, termed the results exceptional, with 10% of students scoring 40 points or above and 83% of students 30+ points. 

Oman and Bahrain too saw high DP pass percentages at 83.33% and 82.24% respectively, followed by Qatar at 75.54 DP pass percentage and Kuwait at 64%.  

The total number of students who participated in the exams increased across all the GCC countries, except in Oman where it dropped from 207 in 2024 to 156 in 2025.   

According to IB, 202,103 students worldwide received their DP and CP results from the May 2025 examination session. This marks a 4.8% increase in the number of students receiving DP and CP results.
