CPD key to effective teacher training

The demand for upskilling in the educational sector is driven by evolving student demographics, the rise of AI and challenges in teacher supply and retention

Governments and private schools across the GCC are investing in targeted teacher training programmes to enhance educational outcomes and meet the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution 

Professional development of teachers has emerged as a key criterion for educational institutions, particularly with the widespread integration of technology into teaching and learning practices. While governments across the GCC have enhanced their budget allocations for education, giving a significant weightage for teacher training and research, private schools and organisations are also making significant investments into training.  

Although the focus remains on holistic and sustainable teacher development approaches, emphasising the use of technology and fostering collaborative learning environments, there is a need for teacher retention, especially given the shortage of teachers skilled in advanced technology.  

Countries across the GCC have initiated various programmes for training teachers and enhancing the education system to meet the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution. 

Government initiatives 

In the UAE there are various ongoing training programmes both by the UAE Ministry of Education and by regional regulatory bodies such as the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK).
