Saudi Arabia announces three-term school year with eight-week summer vacation

The first term will start on August 18, 2024 

Riyadh, Jun 23, 2024: The Saudi cabinet has approved the general academic calendar framework for the next five years, for public education, higher education and technical and vocational training sectors.  

The 2024-25 academic year will implement a three-term system for public schools, with an eight-week summer vacation. The first term will start on Sunday, August 18, 2024. The second term will commence on Sunday, November 17, 2024, and the third term will begin on Sunday, March 2, 2025, concluding on Thursday, June 26, 2025. 

The ministry will decide on the most suitable system, either two or three academic terms for the remaining four years at the end of the academic year while maintaining the approved timeframe of no less than 180 instructional days.  

The vacations for the upcoming academic year will include National Day vacation, long weekends, autumn break, mid-year break, Foundation Day break, winter break, Eid Al-Fitr break, another long weekend and Eid Al-Adha break. 

Meanwhile, universities, technical colleges, and international schools can set their own calendars but they must adhere to the five-year approved timeframe to enhance the educational process.
