Jebel Ali School

Short Profile
Jebel Ali School is a leading British Curriculum school in Dubai for students aged 3-18 years. Established in 1977, JAS has an enviable reputation for being a much-loved community school. Centred around the ethos that our students never stop believing that better is always possible, our aim is for each individual to belong, believe and become better than they thought they could. Jebel Ali School Foundation Stage is all about child-initiated, child-centered learning, which starts with the children's interests and works with purposeful play. The teachers are there to move the learning forward to the next steps for each individual child and monitor their individual progress. Building on the experience our children get within the Foundation Stage, we encourage and challenge our children to think differently in Primary. We provide a continuous learning journey for our students and in Year 1 students commence the National Curriculum of England. Effective staff liaison ensures a smooth transition from early years to primary to provide continuity of learning. The curriculum is mainly delivered through a topic approach with discrete subject lessons where appropriate. This allows children to study in contexts that are meaningful and to make connections across different areas of learning. There is a strong focus on core subjects of English, mathematics and science. Other subjects comprise geography, history, art, design technology, citizenship and Personal, Social and Health Education, (PSHE). Moving into Secondary, we prepare our secondary students to be responsible global citizens of the future. To be such citizens they need to conceptualise, problem solve, empathise and lead - as well as have an understanding of the challenges confronting the modern world. Most important of all they need to understand the importance of having time to breathe, explore and relax. To achieve this we have taken the core of the English National Curriculum and combined it with elements of the IB, RSA and other national education systems – including the ‘National Agenda’ of the UAE. Our goal is to educate, engage and enthuse our secondary students so that they become well rounded, successful, confident, reflective and responsible individuals ready to take their place in society. Within the Sixth Form, we offer a wide array of A-levels, BTECs and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Students are expertly guided through their two-year study by experienced subject specialists. With a variety of pathways available to students, we are able to tailor our provision and timetable to suit each student. We work back from each student's interests and aspirations to ensure that upon graduation they are able to next the next step on to university, an apprenticeship, or their chosen career. Alongside our academic provision, JAS students are supported by our unique ETHOS programme; this includes our Study and Life Skills programme which develops essential skills for when students move to university, our Options and Aspirations program, and our Tutor programme which gives students access to learning support when required. Inclusion is important to us at JAS... we place the children’s needs at the centre of everything we do and believe we play a vital role in ensuring every child has a successful learning journey.
